HTML5 related technology to replace Adobe Flash

Adobe itself concedes that Adobe Flash need to go and will turn-off Adobe Flash by 2020. Adobe in the mean time will migrate users to other programs.

Why did Adobe take that decision?

Two things, flash plug-ins are insecure, the other, the emergence of HTML5. Why keep something that can be done as easily with a option adored by the community and more secure.

However, Adobe Flash may stay on for gaming and related applications.

I am sorry that it has to go!

When it comes to MathML, Firefox does a much better job than Microsoft Edge

This is just the view point looking at just one example and must not be construed to apply to whole of MathML. You may review some basic MathML information here.

Here is an example of displaying a matrix using the presentation elements of MathML. Browsers do not support MathML the same way, some do better than others. Generally speaking browsers that support HTML5 should support MathML to some extent. This post considers only the latest versions of Firefox and Microsoft Edge at present.

This page can be hosted on a web server(in this case on the local ISS, IIS Version 10.0.10586) on Windows 10 Pro)

This is a very simple page but there are differences how the browsers display them. The MathML is highlighted in yellow in the HTML page.

Firefox displays as shown here without any modification. This is the correct way of displaying a matrix.

Microsoft Edge 25

What is a Web App Template?

Web App Template takes your Web App as the core for a full featured Store App for Windows that includes versions 8 and 8.1. Jump start and convert your website into a Windows Web App. Of course Windows Phone App is also possible if you download the phone related template.

It is implemented as a Visual Studio template that you can install as a one-click installer. With this installed you can create a project of type 'Web App template'. All you need to do is to make changes to the config file (in JSON format) with your application values and voila! you have a Store application. You must give Internet permissions to your app.

The Windows Store app is built during run time taking your Web App and the configuration data. This image is sourced from Microsoft Web Site.

The template allows you to add (or hide) the required items to perform as Store App embellishing with back button, navigation, Offline support etc. Your Web app will also be touch friendly & responsive giving it all the frills of a Store App.

These extra things can be added to make your web app as a full fledged store app.

Live Tiles
Secondary Tiles
Offline support
Visual management
URL Control
Notifications
Authentication Integration
Logging and error handling
etc.

Where do you get this template?

It is not part of the Visual Studio Express 2013 Windows Update 2 download. You need to bring it in separately. There are some requirements:
You need to have Visual Studio 2013 (Windows Store Express, Pro or Ultimate) or later and a machine or VM running Windows 8.1. The Windows Phone 8 template requires that you have the Windows Phone SDK or Visual Studio Express for Windows Phone.

I could get the template installed and start working with it in VS2013 Express for Windows.

Microsoft Web Camps-Bengaluru Nov 3_2011

I managed to attend this event in Bengaluru and it was quite interesting. The Microsoft staff who made the presentations did quite a good job. The presentations were around HTML5 and Web Matrix. Deploying a web matrix application to Windows Azure was presented quite effectively. However I am not sure how many in the audience worked with Windows Azure. IE 9.0: Love at first sight

It's cool and it's fast and it is called IE9.0
Little more than IE9.0, it's Beta 1.
You can download it from here:

Versions Vista (Windows 7), 32-bit or 64-Bit

Installs fast and it's really nice. If you can do without Norton Toolbar you can take off a full 1 second from waiting time.

Figure tag in HTML 5 and Firefox

Figure tag new in HTML 5 is used to group some elements that are associated with a figure.

This gets rendered in the same way in all the recent browsers except in Firefox
3.0.6 as shown.

In the other browsers it renders like this one.

Of course, IE8 RC1 still cannot render it without first creating a figure element using the following:

New HTML 5 tags and IE 8.0 Beta

I tried some of the HTML 5 only tags and did not see any difference. It could not play audio and Video. The browser was not using the IE 7.0 Emulate switch.

One thing did happen: My Blog editor went crazy. Lost the place holder for Title and the formatting buttons on the editor lost control. This was posted using FireFox 2.0.

Can the new tags be used in CSS rules?
