The Unique Identification Authority (Aadhaar) of India is getting a lot of traction overseas

The Unique Identification Authority (Aadhaar) of India is getting a lot of traction overseas

Developed in India the Unique Identification Authority (Aadhaar) has been working hard with the idea that this is the true and correct way to address the needs and aspirations of one of the most populated country India.

This is how Bill Gates rationalized Aadhaar:

"Earlier, in his lecture on 'Technology for Transformation' organised by NITI Aayog on November 2016, Gates had said that Aadhaar is something that had never been done by any government before, not even in a rich country"

The next image from @uidai summarize bio-metric identification is accessed for demographic information. It has the most massive demographic information in the world.

My previous post on UIDAI is quite old, almost 5 years ago and at that time there were over 1 billion entries  and presently:

1.2 billion people have an Aadhaar number. Over 1.2 B people registered according to UIAI web site, end of February 2018. Aadhaar download can be obtained from the online services. Today, some 1.2 billion people have an Aadhaar number, accounting for more than 99% of India's total adult population.Jul 1, 2018

According to a tweet from Aadhar, IIT Bombay is developing a Aadhaar-like digital database for Morocco with their Modular Open Source Identity Platform (MOSIP) application suite

You now have SQL Server Agent in SQL Operations Studio

SQL Operations Studio is the lightweight tool to carry out administrative tasks on a SQL Server Instance. SQL Server Agent is a tool in SQL Server Management Studio that does a lot of work created as Jobs.

In the July 2018 Preview, Microsoft has introduced SQL Server Agent by way of an extension so that SQLOPS can be used to work with SQL Server Agent without using the SQL Server Management Studio making it a lot easier and productive.

You can install the July 2018 version needed as shown here:

Walking tour of Orvieto - September 26, 2018

September 26:

We had breakfast at the hotel which was reasonable. The blood orange juice (the first time I ever had) was quite refreshing. I had my usual piece of bread with cheese and coffee.

Orvieto sits on the top of a volcanic tuff (325 meters above sea level)-consolidate and compressed volcanic ash and down below, there is the other part of Orvieto which has the train station and some businesses. The hill top town has narrow roads, the Cathedral and other tourist attractions.

We explored Orvieto on foot together with our local guide who met us at the hotel. We all walked together and took some pictures of the 'Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo' which served as both market place as well as town's meeting hall. The building style was used as a template for other building is Italy. Presently it is used for conferences and community meetings.

The town has lots of narrow, winding cobbled streets under arches; between fortified walls, both new and ancient. There are lots of delightful little shops; restaurants; gift shops; shops selling leather goods, bread and olive oil etc. We were also guided to the Collegiate Church of Saints Andrew and Bartholomew- built on the ruined Etruscan place of worship. The dodecagonal bell tower was quite interesting. We did go inside the church. There were frescos which were not in great shape with plaster peeling off. St. Andrews in stained glass was nice (but not my picture of it).

As we still had plenty of time to meet after lunch to visit the Cathedral; we decided to take in, more of the town and discover on foot. The Bottega Michael Angeli Wood Atelier was very good with so many toys and things crafted in wood. We also passed in front of the Institute of higher education for art and crafts building; the various shops selling art works, ceramics, leather goods, etc.

Since we were on our own for lunch and dinner in Orvieto, we stopped for lunch at a restaurant called, 'Trattoria la Grotta'. It was OK and soon after we entered, a big Scandinavian group entered.
Tiramisu was very good.

After lunch we were to meet in front of the Duomo (the Cathedral), the most imposing structure in Orvieto with an elaborately carved facade with three sections. This is considered a masterpiece of Italian Gothic.  The Rose window is very arresting, both from outside and from inside. We waited for our local guide and I had enough time to take more detailed shots of the façade.

Our local guide showed up and we all entered the Cathedral. The Cathedral interior was huge and imposing; the black and white zebra patterns from marble was everywhere, on the columns supporting the cathedral and on the walls. Herein, one can find the masterpiece frescoes of Luca Signorelli. My shots are not good but captures the essence. Another piece of sculpture,  one will not miss is the Pieta -completed by Ippolito Scalza around 1579.

After the Cathedral we made a brief visit to the underground caves which shielded the locals during enemy incursions near the Parco del Grotte. We had a special city guide to takes around the cave, quite an elaborate network (we only saw a part of it).

We returned perhaps around 5:00 PM and later we had a cheese, cold cuts and wine party. Two of the ladies in our group celebrated their birthdays which brought on birthday cakes and more singing.

We left a little early to have some supper at a nearby restaurant Antico Bucchero, a fine restaurant but a little expensive.

We are almost finished with our visit to Orvieto and tomorrow, after visiting Assisi we will come back to Orvieto to say goodbye the following day.

Problem with Microsoft Edge in Insiders Build 17733.rs5_release.18083-1525

Recently my laptop OS got upgraded to the build, 17733.rs5_release.18083-1525. Looks like Microsoft Edge with the following signature:

Microsoft Edge 44.17733.1000.0
Microsoft EdgeHTML 18.17733

has some display related problems.

This is one of the observed problems that some blank browser pages appear that cannot be closed using the context menu or the Close(x) (or ALT+F4) control on the page.

Before this blank page showed up, the OS sort of rebooted all by itself and when the OS was reloaded, this blank page showed up.

Here are some associated screen shots:

Blank page was there in the first place, added another page above.

It appears blank, but it is on a NASDAQ site.

The blank page can be minimized/maximized but cannot be closed.

The other thing I have been noticing is that the Downloads now go to a TEMP location and presently to:
C:\Users\TEMP.XXXXXX\Downloads. There is a control that allows saving it to a different location. I am not sure when this happened. I heard that Microsoft decided to save everything to Cloud, I am not sure if it is true.

Also the Project I create in Visual Studio also gets saved to this 'TEMP.xxxxx' folder. Is this normal?

Probably the best language to learn now is Python

Of course, you want the most popular and the most valuable.

According to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) , it is Python, the clear winner.

Here are the top ten in its rankings:

Why Python?

The answer appears to the fact that it iss now used for embedded applications and because it has beefed up its repertoire related to AI and Machine learning. It is for this reason R language (somewhat speccialized) has seen some decline.

Microsoft C# is still handing there at 5 and probably its place will be solid 5 for all types of programming - Web, desktop and Mobile. SQL is also there but does not show up as top 10 which is understandable given its area of usage.

Well here is the first 20. Find if your favorite is here

Well, you may want to know the basis for the ranking. You can get to know here.

You can find a lot of posts on R and Python on this site.

You can find a lot of Python and R posts in my blogs.

Installing the new Insider Preview of Windows 10 - 4

The experience has been subpar. In addition to the various things in the preceding 3 posts,

  • I also find that items from the Favorites are wiped clean. I had tons of stuff, all gone.
  • The Downloads folder has been emptied out too. I had three important downloads, all of them gone.
  • Every time I boot, 'Preparing Windows ' comes up. It used to be the first time after an update.
  •  (Good news) Some of the apps have started working, Calendar, Photo, some games, Skype (very slow to load), calculator, Microsoft store.
  •  I had many example apps created for my posts and they do not function (the ones inside yellow rectangle). Well, this may not be the Windows problem, rather the problem of Visual Studio which is presently being triaged at Microsoft.

Tried Cortana as well. She repeats the same question, again and again.
The AI features need improvement. There is no spelling error in Cortana and the best the AI can find a match is Cortland.
