Using basic analytics using Power BI - Part 1

In an earlier post getting data from WEB  was described which used Indian demographics data.

In this post some analytics information will be added to the display using built-in analytic capabilities of Power BI.

Here is the WEB retrieved data from the link mentioned earlier.

Here is a visual of male, female and total populations from the Southern states Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala.

If you are not on a 'visual', you will not see the icon for the Analytics in the Visualizations section as shown. I am showing a visual, but I am not on it.

Here we have Page Level filter as shown

The total population is less than 10M in each state as you can see by adding data.

Once you are on a visual you can access the 'Analytics' as shown here.

Now click on 'Analytics' and you can add a number of analytics markers as shown here.

Now you will add a line showing average (Blue line)  of population of Females as shown here.

Here are few more settings for 'average line' that was not captured in the previous image. A zoom control would have captured the whole page of interest.

Similarly you add the Min Line, Max Line, Media Line and Percentile lines to the data.

Which one do you want CEO or CDO?

What we more importantly need is a CDO.

CDO is Chief Data officer(DBA in disguise?) who can mesmerize your customers with the infinite possibilities of data analytics.

Well, you also need a CAO, the Chief Analytics Officer.

Microsoft's R Server Developer Edition is FREE

Data is dead long live analytics.

Analytics will be the beacon to follow by all enterprises in the future. Having mere data and not being able to act on it is something that everyone will rush to avoid. R language, a language meant for statisticss and analytics will be one of the most sought after skills in the near future.

Microsoft has thrown in a lot to be at the forefront, not only acquiring the Revolution Analytics Company but also making it one of the prime features of SQL Server 2016.

Microsoft will be rebranding Revolution Enterprise for Hadoop, Linux and Tera data as R Server.
If you are interested in this growing technology area you could jump start downloading the R Server Developer Edition which is free (as free can be). It's just like all the other developer's stuff, has all the features of enterprise but not production worthy.

Also Revolution R Open has been rebranded as Microsoft R Open which is also free. For those who are already using MicrosoftData Science Virtual will have a preinstalled R Server. It is not a stretch that R Server will be on Azure as well for machine learning and IOT.

Azure Data Factory Azure Service in the offing

Leaks have become the modus operandi to create a buzz in the market place for products such as iPhones and other IT related goodies. According to Mary J Foley a veteran on stuff related to Microsoft, Microsoft is in the process of offering a Azure Data Factory Service to bring management of all data related services, Microsoft Azure and other third party related services under one service with the aim of getting intelligence out of them.

This appears to be what may be termed as a 'leak' as Microsoft has not commented on this topic when information was requested.

This service when it debuts is meant to include all data sources including blobs, databases, tables, and yet to be defined data and manage all of these centrally.
