It was a sad day at 3138 Waialae Avenue in Honolulu

It was indeed a sad day at 3138 Waialae Avenue as a whole lot of owner's wishes were quashed by the AOAO Board and the first lot of trees were cut down. There were many activities leading up to this fateful day by the owners trying to persuade the AOAO board.

Vigil under the Monkeypod tree that is destined to be cut

Unable to stand the body language of the owners the AOAO Board resorted to hide behind a ZOOM meeting and the board took a vote to cut down the trees. Basically, a block of 6 voted to cutdown.

ZOOM meetings have become a way of life to carry out unsavoury acts in many human activities recently. This was yet another instance.

For me personally, it was the loss of Oxygen and the tree removal company produced gasoline fumes for the whole of today's morning. I am totally opposed to cutting trees. They don't align with world view or the US's ambition to capture carbon. What cheap and better way is there than trees!

I went out to see the cutting of the trees along the walk and they had already started at the point nearest to the bridge on the Palolo stream. I am not sure at that point whether they were cutting or trimming the branches and I heard falling sound of branches.

Here are some pictures:

I spoke to one worker from the tree removal company and asked him if he likes to bring down trees, he said he was not happy.

Who is the most happiest today? Of course, the AOAO Board of Regency Park at 3138 Waialae on this day, 10/7/2024.

The tree right behind my unit was very tall and the worker had to work from top downwards. At the lower levels he had to make more cuts as the tree got a lot thicker.  I felt as if I have been cut, piece by piece. They produced a lot of noise and gasoline fumes. Dismembered pieces littered the walkway.

It was pitiful to watch the Fairy Terns fly agitated helter skelter but they kept coming back. Perhaps they had a nest. These birds are protected by the State of Hawaii.

But what comes next is too important. We need to stop it. AOAO has on its list many more trees to be chopped off. The next batch occupies a space where the trees are shielding residents from noise and pollution, providing shade without which the heat can be unbearable, and home to the Fairy Terns.

Look closely the blue tape around the trunk of a tree closeby. This area near the Chaminade University is the nesting ground of these birds.

The sad thing is that board has not provided details to the satisfaction of the residents.

To be continued...

Here is a TV clip of TV Coverage of Sign waving at Waialae Avenue and 3rd Avenue in Honolulu.

Mrs. Clevinger asked me to add the following to my blog or as a separate post. I decided to add it to the post to have a complete story.

Letter written by Deborah Clevinger to the Board of Directors

"Some of the Condominiums' Board of Directors (BoD) members feel the tree removal project is over and done with. Many, many owners, residents, and I'm sure a minority of BoD members disagree and are sickened by the continued destruction of our beautiful place we call home.

It was stated that this is a "passionate topic". This is evident by the outpouring of residents' concerns, countless emails, letters, phone calls, texts that you have received from these concerned residents trying to get your attention to reconsider this very hurtful and I think, rash decision. I understand that BoD have many concerns that they are dealing with and I'm sure just wanted to move this "tree business" along. But this "business" is not like any of the other businesses as we all have been a witness to. That passion has not dissolved but only heightened with this continuing to cut down our healthy trees that make up our serene, quiet, cool, shady home. The mere topic of removing our trees has caused much stress, anguish, anxiousness,  sleeplessness, restlessness, and those cortisol levels to rise which  leads to an unhealthy life for all of us. Stress is not healthy as we hear from the news and our doctors.

BoD members, you live here also, you are our neighbors, some for a long time, some for not so long. We all share this home and not just we humans, but countless other living creatures that beautify and amplify the serenity of our environment that we share. I enjoy hearing the morning and evening bird songs. Silent Spring is an excellent book that describes what life is like without our feathered friends. What human careless actions can do to our environment and other living creatures.  The Lorax says, "I speak for the trees, for the trees have no tongues." The trees can not run from the chainsaw, can not fly away, but must stand as they are being cut down one small section at a time... what are we doing to our beautiful home???

We should be good stewards and teach our children that we care for nature and our environment and that we maintain it through pruning, sometimes feeding, fertilizing, using one of many other mitigation strategies to preserve our valuable friends
I learned that Native Americans call trees "the Standing People". The Native Americans are true conservationists - only using and taking a life, animal or plant, that was needed for them to survive. We can learn a great lesson from them - the great respect they had for their environment. They plan for 7 generations out. These huge canopy trees that you scheduled to cut down  will not be replaced in our children's lifetime. It takes decades for trees to gain the size of some of the trees that you have scheduled to cut down and already have cut down.

Please, please, find it in your heart to reconsider this very unhealthy decision that was made and amend it while there are still a few of the healthy canopy trees that are left of the 7 that were to be removed.

Another beautiful healthy tree was cut down on Monday October 7, 2024. No more can it provide us the solace, shade, serenity that it did for so many years. The trees along the riverwalk will dramatically change the environment along, beside and in the stream. As the large eucalyptus tree was being cut down a fairy tern hovered above looking for its home...how heartbreaking. You can almost hear it asking..Where's my home? It was just here. Where am I to go now? Don't I matter to any of those humans who are taking away my home?

We are in the final hours of some of the "condemned" remaining trees. Please, look deep inside you as a human being, a fellow creature sharing this place we call home and make a decision to stop this useless slaughter of our beautiful trees. We are to be stewards of all of God's creatures. We alone are responsible for our own actions, not the actions of the group. It is said, "What is popular is not always what is right, and what is right is not always popular."

Thank you for reading to the end and please stop this slaughter of our precious trees.
Respectfully submitted,
Debb Clevenger

If the community is strong and connected, we can save the Monkeypod tree

Our efforts to save the Monkeypod tree were thwarted by a determined AOAO board, which brought in a parliamentarian to oversee the voting process. Unfortunately, the AOAO avoided a physical meeting with owners, opting for a Zoom meeting instead. Remarkably, some AOAO directors chose to mute their cameras.

The meeting concluded with the directors voting to remove the Monkeypod tree, defeating the owners' cautionary advice and explanations.

However, the determined owners have started a vigil and other activities to alert the media and posters.

They will be holding a meeting of concerned owners this coming Saturday,  first in the Regency Park's Recreation Room and later under the iconic tree.

Readers of this blog may also read about how the community saved a old Banyan tree here (Community Outcry Saves A Banyan Tree - Honolulu Civil Beat), and how the Manoa community successfully saved their Monkeypod tree here (https://hodentek.blogspot.com/2024/08/if-manoa-could-save-their-trees-so.html).

I am confident we can achieve similar success if all concerned work together towards this goal.

If Manoa could save their trees, so should we

This photo is from: https://www.lotsafunmaps.com/Oahu/Manoa_town/gallery.html

As soon as we found a residence in Honolulu, the first thing that attracted was Manoa. When it rains, I look towards Manoa to find the rainbow. Manoa at the foothills of the Ko'olau is an oasis. It is an enchanting place.

Manoa residents got together and they were able to prevent the 'Administrators' from cutting down the Monkeypod trees. They did have to fight the battle but the residents made the decision.

Read more about it here:

https://historichawaii.org/2018/05/10/communities-saving-places-the-monkeypod-trees-at-manoa-marketplace/

The above fortifies our position vis-à-vis the contemplated cutting of the trees. In an earlier, I posted how I personally felt, which soe may construe as an activist. However, cutting trees has long range ecological implications.

Cutting down the trees involves two negative processes with long term ecological impact. To put it simply, you are doing these two harms at the same time.

Loss of carbon dioxide sequestration: Trees play a vital role in absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, helping to mitigate climate change. Removing them reduces this crucial ecosystem service

Increased carbon emissions: The process of cutting down trees, transporting them, and processing the wood often involves the burning of fossil fuels, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions.

Regarding Hawaii's contribution to carbon emission, it is generally on the negative side due to transport and tourism, both producing carbon emission. Any help to mitigate is of great value.

Save Regency Park's Trees: A Honolulu Community Stands United

This post relates to an impasse' between the owners of the Regency Park residents and the AOAO Board of the condominium. This is posted by the author who is also a resident.

I was dismayed to learn that an important asset of my property is going to be removed by a decision taken by the condominium board. This condominium and its grounds are a haven for many, is facing an imminent threat: the indiscriminate removal of our cherished trees. Many of the residents are united in plea to the condominium board to reconsider this drastic action and explore alternative solutions to preserve our green oasis. The community needs a serious conversation on this issue with the condominium board.

The owners of Regency Condominium are urgently requesting that the AOAO (Association of apartment owners) reconsider the removal of several trees. The trees provide essential shade, protect lower-level units from excessive sun, enhance property values, contribute to a serene environment;  home to the nesting area of the endangered Fairy Tern (HUI MANU-O-KŪ - Hui Manu-o-Kū (whiteter.org) birds, and improve air quality by filtering pollutants and reducing noise.

Breeding Ground of Fairy Terns

The monkeypod tree is slated for removal. The shady spot is where I walk every afternoon.

I am 100% against this callous decision

Upon inquiring about the committee’s reasons for tree removal, I was presented with questionable justifications. One reason suggested that elderly residents might trip over the trees, a claim lacking credibility. Simple solutions such as root trimming or installing a fence from a local hardware store could easily address this non-issue.

Roots protruding out that are easy to trim or fenced around

Another reason cited was the alleged rising of the pavement due to tree roots. This explanation seems contrived, as the parking lot's surface is uneven throughout.

The AOAO board has failed to provide minutes from the 2023 and 2024 board meetings to the interested residents despite repeated requests. Furthermore, the board has relied on a single arborist review plus an incomplete arborist report to justify its decision. This lack of transparency and due diligence is a clear breach of the board's fiduciary duty to residents. Any future proposals to remove trees must be subject to the approval of all residents. A link to this blog will be forwarded to the property management company and all board members.

What You Can Do:

Attend the next condominium board meeting and voice your concerns.

Contact other residents and spread awareness about the issue.

Share this blog post and encourage others to get involved.

Together, we can save Regency Park's trees!

The property owners, including myself, firmly believe that preserving our community's green spaces is essential to the health, well-being, and property values of all residents. We will not stand idly by while our beloved trees are destroyed.

The address of the property:

Regency Park Condominium

3138 Waialae Avenue, Honolulu, Hawaii, 96816

I sincerely thank Ms. Milly Ring and a large group of concerned residents for their input.

Fairy Tern Protection in Hawaii

Yes, the Fairy Tern (Manu-o-Kū) is a protected species in Hawaii. While it might not have a federal protection status in the United States, it enjoys significant protection at the state level.

Due to the critical conservation status of the Fairy Tern in Hawaii, harming, disturbing, or removing them or their nests is illegal. Many conservation efforts are in place to protect their habitat and ensure their survival.

On AI chatbots and fact checking

Bertrand Russel's view of ethics originates as being primarily due to our feelings and consequences but they are a result of our education and nurture. This view, while precludes that the ones without education and proper bringing up lack ethics holds likely on the average. I think, ethics is a lot more than education and nurture. I was told that the colonial armies of the past meted out punishment by running horses over the head of half buried enemies. They were able to do so only when they covered the eyes of the horses. Was it an ethical issue for the horses? I wonder.

Fact checking has become a fact of life in recent times especially after the rise of the AI's. Should they or should they not fact check? AIs, as they proclaim themselves are emotionless and non-judgmental. They are also derived from the LLM they always quote as being on which they are based. I can only infer their readiness, or reluctance to do a fact check as being due to is a policy taken by the implementers. I think it is ethically important that they really try to do a fact check, I am not looking for their view of the fact.

In the present world of fake news, deep fakes and such, AI products have a social responsibility to let their algorithms do just that. It is the most ethical thing to do.  I would, further take their reluctance as a political statement of their creators.

Here is an example: This following appeared on a social media platform. Perhaps, it may be driven by some kind of phobia, may be not.

Fact check: According to Iran's 'Press TV' and 'al  Mayadeen' reports, Israeli forces allegedly dropped white phosphorus  bombs on the outskirts of Rasaya al-Fakhar town on July 26.

These are the responses of Google' Gemini, Microsoft's C-Pilot and Facebook's Meta AI:

Gemini:- While I aim to be helpful, Google Search may provide a more detailed and accurate response on this topic.

Co-Pilot:-Looks like I can’t respond to this topic. Explore Bing Search results.

Meta AI:- I can't find any information about Israeli forces dropping white phosphorus bombs on the outskirts of Rasaya al-Fakhar town on July 26. However, here are some relevant facts about Israel's use of white phosphorus munitions:

- *Use in Lebanon*: Israel has used white phosphorus munitions in Lebanon, which has led to civilian harm and displacement ¹ ² ³.

- *International law*: The use of airburst white phosphorus is considered unlawfully indiscriminate in populated areas under international humanitarian law ³.

- *Previous use*: Israel has used white phosphorus in the past, including in Gaza in 2008-2009 and in Lebanon in 2023 ¹ ².

Actually, Meta AI indeed did well according to me. You may very well disagree.

Why did Gemini and Co-Pilot recuse and distance themselves?

Image creation by Chatbots is work in progress.

We have seen that some of the chatGPT based chats (CoPilot,DALL-E 2, MidJourney, NightCafe  Creator, etc.) seem to work with both textual /image information. However, AI's interaction with text is lot more advanced than with the images.

The difference between text, and image is analogous to structured data and unstructured data. Most of the textual information is highly ordered and structured, but that of the image is unstructured. Text may give a more intimate view into what it represents and it may even generate human-like text, but image gives only a give few of its attributes like shape, color, size and it may not be able to give the full context, like emotions. We can say at this point that text gives a higher contextual understanding than an image.

Image analysis using AI commonly known as computer vision has also made great advances but challenges are many. The probing of images by AI with research in deep learning and neural networks is narrowing this gap. Presently AI models are getting better at object detection, image recognition and generate images from text descriptions.

Here are some examples of images created from text:

Create a detailed picture of Ayodhya temple in India.

Co_Pilot tried to create an image. I am not showing all its attempts as they did not remotely resemble a Hindu temple but something from the fairy tales.

Here is what I finally got after goading:

This is one of the four images that are created automatically.

Well, Gemini tried as well but these are the results. I did not try repeated refinements of my text to get them.

Meta AI also tried its hand at creating the Ayodhya temple using it Emu, Meta Ai's proprietary engine.

The temple in India looks like this.

Presently, this is the best th ChatBots can do.

I do have an image from NightCafe and I will paste it here when I find it.

Android emulators on Bluestacks 10, Genymotion, NOX, and LDPlayer and their Bluetooth performance

Download sources, and Bluetooth connectivity of these game apps are described.

Bluestacks 10 (https://www.bluestacks.com/download.html)app player allows you to play mobile apps, both Cloud Gaming and Android Emulator) from the Google Play Store on your Windows or Mac computer.

Genymotion (https://www.genymotion.com/product-desktop/download/)is a cross platform Android emulator for testing apps. It can do scalable testing that are done on virtual devices. It is available for windows (x64), Linux(x64) and macOS(x86-64, arm64) platforms as well as Genymotion SaaS and Genymotion Device Image.

Nox (https://www.bignox.com/) is yet another Android Emulator for playing mobile games.

LDPlayer (https://www.ldplayer.net/) featured as the fastest Emulator for Android games PC.'

Motivation:

Actually, I wanted the raw data on a commercial, low cost, smartwatch from a Chinese company that called upon an Android app called HBand. H Band is available on Google Play, but if you want to run it on your windows PC (Windows 11) you need an Android Emulator. All of the above apps are indicated for the use of H Band.

The Mobile app, H Band on a Android Phone works OK. But, what if you want to look at raw data of  (body temperature, step counts, blood pressure, blood glucose, blood oxygen, Heart rate, and body temperature) collected by the app.It is supposed to be a safe app as far as data safety is considered including transit time encryption).

BlueStack:

I contacted BlueStack to find that it does not yet support Bluetooth.

I tried Nox to connect to the watch. It works sometimes and sometimes it does not open. All these apps run very slow, intolerable in this 5G era.

GenyMotion requires a virtualBox. I wanted something that would work with no additional software.

LDPlayer is another option and it takes a lot of memory. It's Bluetooth connection is also not good.

I looked up the space requirements for some of these and they do take up a lot of space and send non-stop notifications.

This is what one of the ChatGPT came up with:

1. **BlueStacks 5**:

   - RAM: Requires at least 4GB of RAM¹.

   - Storage: Approximately 5GB of free disk space².

   - CPU Consumption: Consumes about 10% CPU, making it efficient¹.

   - RAM Usage: Consumes the least amount of RAM compared to other emulators¹.

2. **LDPlayer**:

   - CPU Consumption: Registered a massive 145% higher CPU usage compared to BlueStacks¹.

   - RAM Usage: Consumes more RAM than BlueStacks¹.

3. **Nox**:

   - CPU Consumption: Consumes 37% more CPU resources with noticeable lag in-app performance¹.

   - Storage: Unfortunately, I couldn't find specific storage requirements for Nox, but it seems to take up significant space³.

4. **Genymotion**:

   - Genymotion is another popular emulator, but its resource usage can vary based on the specific configuration and usage.

I DECIDED TO DUMP THEM ALL AND USE THE ANDROID EMULATOR IN ANDROID STUDIO. WHAT IS MORE, I HAD USED IT YEARS AGO.

NOT BEING A GAMER, I DO NOT NEED THE PROGRAMS. WHen I FIND SOME TIME, I WILL GET RID OF THEM

Installing Koalas, the latest version of Android Studio

The latest version of Android Studio is called Koalas(2024.1.1)

Please visit this site for details: https://bit.ly/4eAwThe

For Windows download go here: https://bit.ly/3VToH4h

I had problems installing an older version named Arctic Fox here;

https://hodentekmobile.blogspot.com/2021/09/installing-android-studio-arctic-fox.html#google_vignette

Instructions:

If you downloaded an .exe file (recommended), double-click to launch it.

If you downloaded a .zip file:

Unpack the .zip.

Copy the android-studio folder into your Program Files folder.

Open the android-studio > bin folder.

Launch studio64.exe (for 64-bit machines) or studio.exe (for 32-bit machines).

Follow the Setup Wizard in Android Studio and install any recommended SDK packages.

Herein I describe the installation of Android Studio Koalas on a Windows x64 laptop Surface Pro 5. I downloaded this file:  android-studio-2024.1.1.11-windows.exe

The installation screens are shown here:

Although all the screens have successfully traversed, you do not see the Finish button enabled. The trick is go to each item in the list and accept the license terms. If all of them are accepted the Finish button gets enabled.

It will start downloading all the components and the program successfully ends.

This problem has been faced by any and even made it to the StackOverflow forum.

Gemini puts Android App development on turbo-charge

Gemini is integrated with Android Studio (the latest version) as a plugin. There are very many plugins. Scroll down to see Gemini.

How does Gemini help Android Studio?:

In its present embodiment, it can do the following with some exceptions:

Code Generation: Analyze your code and suggest code completion like most other programming software IDEs. Code refactoring suggestions. It can suggest alternative approaches to achieve end result.

Error Analysis: Spotting errors related to code both in scripts and UI. UI integration being very important, this may be an extremely useful help.

Search and Navigation: They are strong points of Gemini and it will wade through the code and take you t specific part of your code. You should find it useful troubleshooting code not of your own but you got ownership. UI/Code interaction will get a great benefit from this feature.

As can be seen, Gemini can greatly assist in App development. Some of these are also parts of what Android Studio do. We will come to the overlap later.

Do you have to do anything to get the Gemini to work with your code.?

This is a great question. You do not have to do anything special. Gemini works in the background and unless you look for it carefully you may not even notice it. Looking at suggestions you may infer it is coming form Gemini.

Take your suggestions from Gemini:

The previous paragraphs emphasizes the fact that Gemini can only suggest and it is up to the developer to implement or take action. This is very important presently because Gemini is still in the 'Learning' mode and it could make mistakes. However, as its suggestions are based on studied analysis, it can add to the repertoire of the developer. As Gemini goes through analysis, it can point to deficiencies in the project that can greatly improve the quality.

Gemini is your friend working in the background and no need to import anything extra. It only offers contextual help based on what you are doing.

There is an overlap between what Gemini brings to the project and what Android Studio already has but Code analysis for code improvement and refactoring are in the realm of Gemini.

I am indebted to Gemini for some of the above.

AI and diabetes

It will be nice to bind together, food intake, CGM measurements and AI models to optimize intake for better glucose profiles for diabetes type I and II.

There are pretrained AI models for diabetes.

GlucoNet Model: Deep learning model that can predict Glucose levels based on carbohydrate intake.

Deep Gluco Model: Not only takes carbo intake into consideration but also insulin dosage, physical activity, etc.

GlucoNet is adequate for diabetes type II. I will be homing in on type II.

These are used to improve the MIT control loop for adjusting optimal carbo intake.

There is company (Alertgy) in Melbourne, Australia involved in the development of diabetes monitored by a wearable device.

Right now, I have one with questionable activity, but qualitatively measuring (Zero, when not connected and 3 peaks to coincide in time with break fast, lunch and dinner).

CoPilot loses to Gemini in a simple question

Certainly! Let’s compare the carbohydrate content in 100 grams of rice, coconut powder, and soya powder:

CoPilot Reply:

White Rice:

  1. Coconut Powder:

  2. Soya Powder (Soybeans):

In summary:

  • Soya powder has the highest carbohydrate content, followed by rice and then coc

Gemini Reply:

Here's a comparison of carbohydrates in 100 grams of each food item:

  • Rice: Brown rice has about 70 grams of carbohydrates per 100 grams, while white rice has around 80 grams.
  • Coconut Powder: Unsweetened coconut powder typically contains around 60 grams of carbohydrates per 100 grams, with most of it being fiber.
  • Soybean Powder (Soy Powder): Defatted soy powder generally has around 50 grams of carbohydrates per 100 grams, with a significant portion being complex carbohydrates and fiber.

Therefore, based on this information:

  • Rice generally has the highest amount of carbohydrates among the three.
  • Coconut Powder comes in second with a moderate amount of carbohydrates, most of which is fiber.
  • Soybean Powder has the lowest amount of carbohydrates, with a good portion being complex carbohydrates and fiber.
How much of factual data can we depend upon using these AI's? Should we be afraid of them?

Scammer impersonating Elon Musk

 Beware!

Dall-E3 created image

I recently received a private message from Elon Musk in my twitter (X) account. I confess, I felt good. However, I was skeptical because why would a multi-billionaire send a message. Has he no one else to correspond with?

Here are some screenshots on that day (about 2 days ago).

I humored him along to see where that would take me. Then he spoke about the enormous amount of money that he has made and going to make with a new Mining company of his. "Have you looked into investing in Bitcoin", etc. It did not smell good. I terminated the conversation.

It even got better. Then he sent a 0.06Sec voice mail. I ignored.

Today, another Musk (I don't know how many of them are walking around) became my follower and sent another message. This is getting comical and silly.

Well, I may not be the only person on the Internet who is subjected to this nonsense. Take care! I don't believe, he will be sending any message, especially now that he has to think about another $56 billion.

What is an identity of a person? A question and answer from Gemini

Who am I? What is my Identity? How am I defined? These are deep questions that has bothered us and still bothering us.

The following question was posed to Bard, an earlier implementation of CoPilot. It is interesting to note that Bard and Gemini differ. Gemini thinks, it is the head that matters. Ok. What if the consciousness is distributed at the cell or even finer level? Also, Bard missed the initial assertion that the wife in confusion made the choices and nt after thinking. Note that Gemini tries to give a definite answer.

A man and his son are walking in a forest. Some bad elements cut-off their heads. The man's wife prays to the goddess. Goddess says, no problem. Just attach their heads and I will give them back life. The wife in confusion attaches the head of her son to her husband's body and husband's head to her son's body. They come alive. Now who is the husband and who is the son?

This riddle hinges on the fact that after reattaching the heads, the bodies come alive but their identities are switched.

Here's the answer:

  • The husband's consciousness is now in the son's body. The head contains the memories and personality, so even though it's attached to the son's body, it's still the husband.
  • The son's consciousness is now in the father's body. Similarly, the son's head with his memories and personality is now on the father's body.

So, physically, their bodies are swapped, but their identities are determined by their heads (containing their consciousness).

SQL Server Versatile and Admirably well suited to AI

The world is datacentric and everything moves based on data. SQL Server is a database management system and takes care of every aspect of data, from second to second management by online transaction processing (OLTP) to mining stored, archived data that includes data that streams (OLAP).

Data and Data Science:

Raw data can be enormous and the only way to give meaning and take out value out is the role of analytics. The advanced analytics handlers are the data science professionals. They go through the mountain of data and distil out the most useful, and the most relevant information. The success of a company, or organization is dependent on these professionals. All of these example following use cases and many more not mentioned here may be cited: credit risk assessments; managing customer/employee churn; hospitalization metrices; targeted sales & campaigns, etc.

Data Science using SQL Server:

SQL Server is a very comprehensive, database management system well suited for everything related to data present anywhere from OLTP data to OLAP data. It can be present both on site and in the cloud and integrated with the AZURE cloud which in turn is integrated with a myriad of other data related applications not only from Microsoft but from many other applications. Doing data science with SQL Server results in high value and high returns.

Data scientists can connect to a myriad of databases that can be used to train data and test the machine learning tool at their hands.

Where does AI come in or fit in?

The data scientists access the data from the client's database and combine with data from other sources to develop models using R software for joining the data and filtering based on criteria. They may begin shaping the data by creating extra informational features like new columns, or useful data partitioned or transformed, etc. This data shaping lays the foundation for predictive analytics. Going a step further they can put into operation a plan for the model that applications can use for producing useful outputs in the form of a predictive model.

This just one scenario where data is taken out of database and worked upon to get at the useful information by creating models. How easy is it? Moving large amounts of data in and out of database comes at a cost. Thinking about cost and other contingent aspects like the location of data, the security of data (that was not mentioned so far), the latency involved if geographically separated sites are involved, and not having features of DBMS like indexing, column stores, high availability, etc. one can conclude that it may be prudent to do as much of the filtering and shaping done on the database using all the tools the DBMS can provide instead of working on raw data from a database.

As a result of considerations discussed previously it will be indeed beneficial if data science and AI on the existing database can be carried out prior to moving out data. This allows you to leverage all the inbuilt features of the DBMS previously discussed. If the data involves geographical data these can be handled inside SQL Server's inbuilt data types. If on the other hand data has to be accessed from other data sources outside of Microsoft, the linked source feature of the DBMS can be used.

The following picture copied from a Microsoft site shows the two ways discussed so far.

Another important consideration is after doing predictive analytics the operationalization of what has been achieved with data science, namely the predictive model. The deployment of this to a production environment can be accomplished by using programming using SQL Server R services in the form of a stored procedure. The predictive model will be stored as varbinary (max) in a database table.

Look forward to more discussions related to SQL Server and AI.

New AI Chat on the block

Bing AI became CoPilot Ai from Microsoft

Then or at about the same time came the Bard from Google

Now, I see a new AI Chat from META. It is called Meta AI and comes up in WhatsApp. This is a private chat that you can have with Meta AI.

How is it different?

This is what, in his (META's) own words>

What is an identity of a person? A question and answer from the Bard

Question:

A man and his son are walking in a forest. Some bad elements cut-off their heads. The man's wife prays to the goddess. Goddess says, no problem. Just attach their heads and I will give them back life. The wife in confusion attaches the head of her son to her husband's body and husband's head to her son's body. They come alive. Now who is the husband and who is the son?

Bard's answer:

🚀

The riddle presents a tricky situation, but despite the heads being swapped, the relationships of husband and son remain the same.

Here's why:

  • Relationship is by nature, not physical body: The nature of the relationship between a husband and his son arises from their roles and biological connection, not their physical bodies. Changing their physical structures doesn't affect their inherent roles.
  • Shared history and bond: The husband and son still share their unique history, experiences, and emotional bond, regardless of their swapped heads. Their individual identities stay intact.
  • Wife's recognition: When the wife brought them back to life, she attached the heads based on her understanding of their personalities and roles, not just physical features.
  • Inner sense of self: Though physically transformed, the son and husband would still carry their internal sense of self and memories, further solidifying their original identities.

Therefore, even with the switched heads, the man remains the husband and the boy remains the son. Their physical appearance might be different, but their essential selves and relationships remain unchanged.

It's important to remember that this riddle highlights the non-physical nature of relationships and identities. They exist deeper than the physical body and are defined by shared experiences, memories, and emotional connections.

I was not satisfied with the answer. I ask again.

You did not answer me directly. Is the body with the son's head is the husband, or the boy's body with father's head is the husband? Need one answer.

🚀

I apologize for not being fully direct in my previous response. You're correct, I presented multiple interpretations without a definitive answer. To be clear, in this particular riddle, the man with the son's head remains the husband, and the boy with the father's head remains the son.

As I explained, although their physical appearances have changed, their individual identities and relationship as husband and son are defined by their inherent roles, shared experiences, and the wife's recognition. Therefore, the swap of heads doesn't alter their core identities and established relationship.

I hope this provides the unambiguous answer you were seeking.

It is interesting to note that Bard pitched on a single answer to this tricky question. Previously we have we seen that CoPilot could not or did not want to.

However, for non-tricky questions, chat apps may give consistently similar answers akin to using the Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.
