Oracle takes on Amazon launching its Elastic Compute Cloud

In the last couple of days Oracle has added Oracle Elatic Cloud to its last year's offering of Dedicated Compute. While Dedicated Compute is like living in an independent house, the Elastic Compute Cloud is like living in a condominium. Oracle Elastic Compute Cloud will operate in shared compute zone.

If you like you can download a eBook (Oracle_Compute_Cloud_service.pdf) from the above link.

You start off with a number of cores and you can run a number of operating systems that include Oracle Linux, Red Hat, Ubuntu or Windows. Scaling up or down is elastic.

Pricing details are TBD but the Oracle CTO has defined the price as "less than AWS Pricing", no mincing of words there.

However entering this late Oracle faces an upward challenge to the Gorilla in the ring, Amazon.

According to the link below the ranking is as it stands now;

AWS 30%
Azure Cloud 10%
IBM Cloud 7%
Google 5%
Salesforce 5%

Where does Oracle fit in this range?

HP was also in the race but recently shuttered its Helion Public Cloud.
